Quick Links
A quick link opens a server, a workspace or a dashboard straight from your phone’s home screen. On Android each link is a pinned launcher shortcut. On iOS links appear in the menu you get by long-pressing the PocketCmd app icon. Quick links are not available on desktop.
Adding a quick link
Section titled “Adding a quick link”Open the options of what you want to link:
- Server: the server sheet’s ⋮ menu.
- Workspace or dashboard: long-press it on the home screen.
Choose Add to Home Screen (Android) or Add Quick Action (iOS). The sheet that opens shows a live preview of the icon or menu entry while you edit it.
- Name is the label under the icon on Android, or the menu entry’s title on iOS.
- On Android, saving hands the shortcut to your launcher, which asks you where to place it. If the launcher can’t pin shortcuts, PocketCmd says so and saves nothing.
- On iOS the link joins the app icon menu. iOS shows at most four quick actions per app, so only the first four links appear there.
Server links
Section titled “Server links”A link to a server has a Connection section with the same protocol and tmux pills as the server sheet. The link keeps its own choice: a link can open a Mosh session with tmux while the server itself is set to plain SSH. Opening a link never changes the server’s saved settings.
Command (optional) runs once the shell is ready, after the server’s own startup command. Running a command from a link requires PocketCmd Pro. On Free you can still save one; it stays on the link and runs once you upgrade.
Tap the preview, or Customize icon, to change how the link looks.
Android:
- Initials (the default), Text (up to three letters, digits or emoji), or Symbol.
- Colour. By default the link follows the server’s color.
- Background: Dark, Light or Colour.
iOS menu entries can only show a system symbol, so iOS offers the symbol grid. The default is Same as server, which follows the server’s own icon.
Links that keep their defaults repaint when you change the server’s icon or color.
Managing links
Section titled “Managing links”Settings › Quick links lists every link. Tap one to edit it, or remove it from there.
- iOS: drag links to reorder them. The first four are the ones in the app icon menu; the rest are marked Not in the app icon menu.
- Android: removing the icon from your home screen deletes the link in PocketCmd. Deleting the link in PocketCmd can’t remove the icon, because Android doesn’t let apps do that; the icon stays on the home screen, grayed out, until you remove it there.
If the server, workspace or dashboard behind a link is deleted, PocketCmd deletes the link too, and on Android grays out its icon.
Behavior
Section titled “Behavior”- A quick link always opens behind the app lock. If PocketCmd is locked you unlock it first, then the link opens.
- Links are stored on the device they were made on. They are not synced and not included in exports.
- The Free limits apply. A link to a server, workspace or dashboard locked by the Free plan shows the same notice as tapping it on the home screen, and doesn’t open it.
